Been a fan of Junji Ito for years now, and own all of his translated works. As a die hard fan, I had this manga pre-ordered for months before even knowing what it was about. I just assumed that it was another short story collection. I was wrong, and I'm so glad that I was. This is an engrossing tale like no other. I have never read anything like this before. It's dark, sad, and grim with not a lot of happy moments, but it is not pure conventional horror as are Junji Ito's other works. This is a tale of a man struggling with his demons, and going through a psychological journey through a physical and metaphorical hell. There is so much to say, but I won't deprive you of the experience. I highly urge you to pick up this masterpiece. Be warned, there is a lot of graphic content of sexual nature, so if you're uncomfortable with that for whatever reason, then I'd skip it. If it doesn't bother you, then by all means grab this manga and give it a read. You won't regret it. By far one of the most unique stories I have ever read. It's possible I'm just a moron, but I'm finding the story somewhat hard to follow - I think because of the translation. Certain phrases that come up don't make sense the first time around, or seem like random assertions rather than something that would come next in the story. Also, one of his cousins is apparently named "Sister" which was EXTREMELY confusing until I re-read the section a few times.All this being said, the artwork is spot-on as one would expect from Ito.I also want to say my copy showed up with grey smudges on the dusk jacked from how it was packed/shipped, and I'm slightly grumpy about it.
