I’ll start by saying this author is amazing. She writes a book I can’t put down every single time. This one was intriguing enough but it took me an awful long time to get into Ronan. The beginning is filled with humiliation, degradation, coldness, and a really terrible scene where Ronan takes her virginity. I’m not into any of this so I had to really dig deep to finish part 1 of this book. I don’t mind a bit darker of a read but I’m not into name calling and he had a couple for her. Mila was also really young and naive. She was too inexperienced to know how to manage her feelings and emotions. She cried constantly and continued to go back to this man who constantly seemed irritated she even existed. He sometimes treated her like the one night stand that wouldn’t leave and the times she did try to distance herself he wouldn’t let her which just led to the cycle continuing. Part 2 was much more gripping. When we finally see Ronan crack a bit and know he’s trying to reconcile his own feelings makes enduring the first part a bit more tolerable. I will say the things that bothered me are reader specific. Some readers won’t mind any of this and may look for these in choosing books. The Darkest Temptation was so worth the wait. Danielle Lori met my expectations and then some. It’s no secret that the Made series is a favorite of mine. Already having some knowledge of Christian and Ronan, from the previous book, I was prepared for a dark mafia story. I got that and so much more. It’s a captive/captor story with so much depth and emotion all thanks to the intoxicating storytelling from Danielle Lori.I was on the edge of my seat and I was panting and fanning myself. Mila and Ronan jumped off the pages. As individuals but most definitely also when they came together in their push and pull games. Danielle Lori has a gift. She excels at writing clever and compelling dialogue. In The Darkest Temptation she’s never been better. I reveled in every banter between Mila and Ronan cause nothing was certain. I had no idea who would come out as the winner. These two characters were intriguing and layered as an onion. I enjoyed every layer Lori slowly stripped away from them. In particular Ronan. He’s mafia and is famous for his name D’yavol - The Devil. With good reason. He’s ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Including hurting Mila. It’s a captive/captor story so I was prepared for Ronan to do his worst. He did but I was luckily surprised by Mila. She’s strong, outspoken and can handle The Devil. She gives as good as she gets.Together Ronan and Mila gave me delicious and sizzling chemistry and slow burn galore. A Danielle Lori specialty. I got appearances from characters from the previous book which was awesome and suited the story fabulously. The suspense and gritty atmosphere throughout the whole story was spot on. Just like I want in my mafia books.The Darkest Temptation is a phenomenal addition to the Made series. Her prose and imagery is stunningly and flawlessly executed. The dialogue is in a league of its own being dark, witty and sarcastic. Just brilliant.
